Getting Involved
Want to get involved? Help make AVID the best that it can be! We would like to invite you to become a member of the AVID Site Team. This team of teachers, parents, tutors, and other AVID support staff meets twice a month. Together, we discuss the implementation of the AVID program within our school, and brainstorm ideas to help support and enrich the lives of our AVID students. Do you want to help, or maybe you just want to learn more about AVID in our building? Contact us and join us at one of our AVID Site Team meetings! Please see our brochure for more valuable information!
AVID Homework & Homework HelpStandard AVID work is available for download and printing from the Student Resources Page. There are a wide variety of AVID assignments that must be completed throughout the school week. Please talk to your student, and be on the lookout for the following :
1. Cornell Notes (C-Note) Expect your student to complete 5 - 15 C-Notes each week depending on grade level from a variety of subject areas. Read more about why we write C-Notes. 2. TRF - Tutorial Request Forms (Tutorials) Tutorials are twice a week, and focus on the students' questions. It is the student's responsibility to create tutorial questions the NIGHT BEFORE, and then present them in class the following day. 3. Grade Checks Each AVID student should fill out a grade/behavior check sheet once a week. This sheet allows the student, parent(s), and AVID elective teacher to stay on top of the student's grades, missing assignments and behavior. This allows the parent(s) and AVID elective teacher the opportunity to conference with the student about progress and to troubleshoot problem areas when necessary. 4. Homework Help Encourage your student to talk to their teachers to set up a time to come in before or after school to get extra help, ask questions, work on homework and whatever else they may need. If your student is not willing to ask, contact your student's teacher for them! Teachers would love to hear from you and you can work together to get your student extra help! |
